Innovative Approaches for Mountain Communities

POLICY DEVELOPMENT

Mountain communities continue to face mounting challenges related to affordable housing, regulation of short term rentals (STR’s), economic development for local businesses and management of tourism pressure. Mountain Strategies can help municipalities proactively address many of these challenges through the development and refinement of key policies and funding strategies that can positively impact mountain towns for generations to come.

As the former Town Manager of two of North America’s premier ski resort destinations and advisor to numerous campaigns, ballot initiatives and policy developments, Scott Robson’s work has led to some of the Mountain West’s most progressive and successful programs. In addition to his work within the Vail InDEED local housing program and Town of Telluride Housing Department, Robson launched the Telluride Economic Advisory Roundtable and served as a Board Member of the San Miguel Regional Housing Authority (SMRHA).

In Vail as Town Manager, Robson led an effort with Council support to draft and successfully gain voter passage of a .5% sales tax increase to fund deed-restricted workforce housing, the first sales tax increase in over 40 years in Vail. By working with Mountain Strategies, organizations also have the opportunity to tap into expertise in developing public-private partnerships with corporations such as Vail Resorts and Telluride Ski & Golf.
